Welcome to my world of fashion! I’m Akecia, and for as long as I can remember, fashion has been my first love. The vibrant colors and textures of fabrics have always captivated me, from those cherished moments spent hand-in-hand with my mother at fabric stores to the iconic styles I’ve encountered throughout my journey.
My deep-rooted passion for African fashion blossomed when I was just seven years old. As my family proudly celebrated our heritage during the Emancipation Day festivities alongside countless fellow Trinidadians, I found myself enchanted by the stunning garments and rich cultural expressions. Although these garments were traditionally worn for special occasions, my young spirit couldn’t resist the allure, and I proudly adorned myself in those bold, bright, and beautiful prints year-round.
In pursuit of creativity, I embarked on a two-hour sewing class in March 2018, and the moment I held a needle and thread, it was love at first stitch! I was immediately inspired to invest in a sewing machine and delve deeper into the enchanting world of fashion design. My journey began with creating unique jewelry pieces for myself and the beloved people in my life. As the buzz about my designs grew, I took a daring leap and launched my brand, Designer’s Original, complete with the empowering tagline, “Be Different. Be You.” My mission? To celebrate individuality and foster a sense of self-love and confidence in every piece I create.
